The Social Union of Legal Education of Sumgait Youth has prepared a report reflecting the state of human rights in Azerbaijan in 2024.
The report covers the general human rights situation in the country, including freedom of expression, torture, corruption, women’s rights, the judicial system, the early presidential and parliamentary elections, the right to free assembly, political prisoners, and the challenges faced by civil society.
The year 2024 has been marked by significant setbacks in the field of human rights in Azerbaijan, with existing issues deepening further. Freedoms of thought, association, and peaceful assembly have been unjustly restricted, and repression against human rights defenders and journalists has increased. The report highlights the systematic limitation of freedom of expression, the rise in the number of political prisoners, and the growing pressure on civil society.
The Social Union of Legal Education of Sumgait Youth has made a series of recommendations to the political authorities of Azerbaijan in order to address these issues. We are presenting this report to the wider international community. Please find the detailed report attached for your review.
