On May 27, a preparatory hearing was held in the criminal case against the head of the “Majlis.info” website Imran Aliyev, his co-defendants Elgiz Gahraman and Tamella Musayeva.
At the session held at the Baku Grave Crimes Court, chaired by Judge Roman Alakbarli, the questionnaire data of the accused were clarified.
Then, Imran Aliyev’s lawyer Rasul Jafarov appealed to the court with several motions.
The lawyer requested that his client be removed from the glass security booth and be allowed to sit next to him.
He also demanded that the investigative body submit the indictment to the defense in electronic format.
Another motion requested the termination of the criminal case.
According to the lawyer, there is no evidence to substantiate the charges made in the indictment, and therefore it is necessary to terminate the case. If this motion is not granted, the lawyer requested that the preventive measure of arrest against the accused be replaced with an alternative, non-arrest measure.
The court granted only the motion to remove Imran Aliyev from the glass security booth and sit next to his lawyer.
At the hearing, a decision was made to refer the criminal case to court.
The next trial was scheduled for June 10.
Imran Aliyev was detained on April 19, 2024.
Elgiz Gahraman and Tamella Musayeva were later recognized as accused in the case and a preventive measure under police supervision was chosen for them.
They were charged under Articles 192.2.2 (illegal entrepreneurship with large-scale income), 192.2.3 (committed by an organized group), 193-1.3.1 (legalization of property obtained through crime), 193-1.3.2 (committed in large amounts), 206.4 (smuggling by an organized group), 213.2.1 (tax evasion – committed by an organized group), 320.1 (forgery of documents), 320.2 (use of forged documents) of the Criminal Code. Imran Aliyev denies the charges, saying that he was punished for investigating the activities of the Milli Majlis and deputies and for leading the website “meclis.info” operating in this direction.
