On May 26, a preparatory meeting was held in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, the head of the election monitoring and head of the Democratic Education Center Anar Mammadli and Social Active Anar Abdullayev.
At the meeting, Anar Mammadli’s lawyer Elchin Sadigov asked the court to leave his house arrest.
“In the event of an investigation, they said that if it was allowed to prevent the investigation. There is no something that will prevent it,” Elchin Sadigov said.
However, the judges did not grant the motion and said that the grounds for Mammadli’s arrest did not disappear.
Anar Abdullah’s lawyer, Anar Abdullah, who was asked to terminate the criminal case in general. The defender said that there are neither original documents nor serious evidence.
This motion was also rejected.
The next hearing trial is scheduled for June 2.
Anar Mammadli was detained in April 2024.
He is charged under Article 206.3.2 of the Criminal Code (when smuggling is committed by a group of people in advance).
Mammadli does not consider himself guilty and does not agree with the charges.
International human rights organizations recognize it as a person arrested with political motives – as a political prisoner.
The name of the public activist Anar Abdullayev is also one of the people accused of anar Mammadli.
In April 2025, Abdullayev was involved in an investigation into Anar Mammadli.
He is charged with several articles of the Criminal Code, and among them are smuggling, illegal entrepreneurship and tax evasion.
The public activist first testified at the Baku Main Police Office, and then he was later elected a measure of police control.
