Rahil Guliyev, a member of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (AXCP) from Qaradağ District, has reportedly been charged in a new criminal case shortly after completing a 30-day administrative detention.
The news was shared on Facebook by his brother Elnur Guliyev, who also serves as a volunteer bodyguard to party leader Ali Karimli. According to Elnur, Rahil was detained on June 7 by the Qaradağ District Police Department. The exact criminal charges remain unknown.
Rahil is the second AXCP member recently targeted with a criminal case following administrative detention.
Earlier, on May 29, Zaur Rzali—Ali Karimli’s volunteer driver—was summoned to the Narimanov District Police Department and informed of criminal charges under Article 228.5 of the Criminal Code (illegal possession or carrying of cold weapons, including gas pistols or bladed weapons). While he was released, a travel ban was imposed.
In recent months, multiple individuals associated with Ali Karimli in volunteer roles—as drivers, bodyguards, or aides—have been repeatedly detained or subjected to criminal prosecution.
- On May 20, Novruz Taghiyev, a former bodyguard, was charged with fraud and ordered into 4 months of pre-trial detention.
- That same day, Rashad Aliyev, a former volunteer driver, was sentenced to 25 days of administrative detention.
- On May 5, Asam Ali (driver) and Kenan Ismayil (bodyguard) were each sentenced to 30 days in jail.
- Kenan Basqal, another bodyguard, was arrested in March 2024 on stabbing allegations.
- Niyamaddin Ahmadov, also a former bodyguard, is currently serving 13 years in prison on controversial charges of terrorism financing.
The AXCP currently has around 15 members in long-term imprisonment. Party leaders and human rights observers have denounced these cases as politically motivated attempts to intimidate the opposition and dismantle its organizational structure.
