The European Political Union summit will be held in Azerbaijan in 2028.

This was announced by Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, while announcing the host countries for 2025–2028.

In 2026, the summits will be held in Armenia and Ireland, in 2027 in Switzerland and Greece, in the first half of 2028 in Azerbaijan, and in the second half in Latvia.

Costa’s statement noted that these events are of particular importance in terms of promoting political dialogue and expanding cooperation on the European continent.

The idea of the European Political Union was first put forward by French President Emmanuel Macron in May 2022. The first summit was held in the Czech capital Prague in October 2022.

Since then, the EPU summits have been held every six months.

The summit brings together EU and non-EU countries, creating an opportunity to cooperate on common problems and challenges.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan commented on the decision to hold the European Political Union summit in Azerbaijan in 2028. He stressed that Armenia and Azerbaijan mutually support each other’s candidacies. Pashinyan noted that this decision will contribute to the development of cooperation between the two countries and is a step aimed at strengthening stability in the region.
